One of the biggest misconceptions out there is the fact that personal development is the responsibility of other people. If others do not give you the nod, then you are not going to improve in your life. You need to scrap this way of thinking. Self-improvement rests on you. You are the only person responsible for success in your life. If you sit back and wait for things to happen, you may get a bit of success, but that is going to be down to luck. You will have zero control over anything. That is why I have put together this article. In this article I am going to look at 10 personal development strategies which will help you when it comes to achieving your full potential.
1. Goal planning: this is where your personal development (and even business development) begins. You need to make a list of what your aims are in life. Think about that one big thing that you have always craved. It doesn’t matter what it is (although, do try to make it realistic, if you are fifty, you aren’t exactly going to be joining the air force and becoming a top pilot). Other than that, it
In March, I attended the inaugural Okeechobee Music Festival with some old friends. Festivals featuring music and art are certainly no extraordinary type of new. They date back to the Pythian Games in Ancient Greece in 582 B.C.
Nor was there anything particularly novel about this situation. Nielsen reports that 32 million people attended a music festival in the U.S. last year. I was merely one of the 1/10th of the U.S. population spending time with some old friends.
What was poignant about this, is that an experience is living and dynamic. You don’t have to worry about a warranty with an experience. Memories never gather dust. When you plan a trip or get a ticket to some kind of show there are distinct stages. You get the anticipation and the excitement of planning involved in those months leading up to it. During the experience itself you are transformed and experience your life in a new permutation.
Afterwards, for those weeks, months, the rest of your life, you get to reflect back upon it. Better yet, If you choose the right people to attend with, then it enhances the experience even further. It becomes the folklore of your collective identity.
An experience such as
“Self-actualisation” represents a concept derived from Humanistic psychological theory and, specifically, from the theory created by Abraham Maslow. Self-actualisation, according to Maslow, represents growth of an individual toward fulfillment of the highest needs; those for meaning in life, in particular.
The term was originally introduced by the organism theorist Kurt Goldstein for the motive to realize one’s full potential. The concept was brought fully to prominence in Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory as the final level of psychological development that can be achieved when all basic and mental needs are essentially fulfilled and the “actualisation” of the full personal potential takes place, although he adapted this viewpoint later on in life, and saw it more flexibly.
As Abraham Maslow noted, the basic needs of humans must be met (e.g. food, shelter, warmth, security, sense of belonging) before a person can achieve self-actualisation – the need to be good, to be fully alive and to find meaning in life. Research shows that when people live lives that are different from their true nature and capabilities, they are less likely to be happy than those whose goals and lives match.
Characteristics of Self-Actualising Persons
Central to the lives of self-actualised people is a set of
Does strength mean being hard as nails or possessing great perseverance within our soul? Is it cloaked beneath the silence of the bleak times or inflated into us by the love and support of our kindred?
Well, the definition of strength can vary and so does its sources. Apart from being able-bodied, one needs to, necessarily, preserve one’s inner strength in order to fly in the face of hardships. In such a tight spot, our upbeat demeanor and affirmative spirit can, undeniably, turn over a new leaf in our favor.
Nevertheless, the ultimate thrust of internal power has miscellaneous spots as its birthplace.
One, having undiminished faith in the universal life force – the Divine Being. Once we have absolute belief in the almighty, our being seems to be chockablock with untold power, energy and dynamism which, indeed, make us cross swords with the looming challenges and complexities in our lives.
Next, taking a momentary look at the vision of the ensuing times can easily navigate us through the everyday trials and tribulations, as, perceiving a brighter tomorrow, without doubt, pumps us with more strength to do better today. Hence, one should never lay down one’s arms in the face of adversity. Putting in
